Hey people! It has been almost a year since tragedy struck the family of Californication star Natascha McElhone (Karan Van Der Beek). For those of you who do not know, last year Natascha, a mother of three sons, became a widow after the untimely demise of her husband. The star’s plastic surgeon husband Kelly McElhone died a sudden death, when he suffered from a fatal heart attack in May last year. Dr. Kelly, who was only 42, was found slumped on the doorsteps of the couple’s home in London. According to a recent interview given to some magazine, Natascha McElhone said that the news of her husband’s death had left her shattered, grief-stricken, and devastated.

The actress was pregnant with the couple’s third child at the time of Kelly’s death and has reportedly said that she has been unable to sleep peacefully since the tragedy struck last year. She has also said in the interview, that the birth of her third son, five months after the death of her husband helped her a lot in coping up with the loss of her beloved Kelly.

The star from Californication has also said that she is determined to rise above her grief since she does not have any right to be sad and she wants people to treat her as a normal person instead of treating her as a grief-struck widow. On the question of facing difficulties about raising her children alone, Natascha said that her children have been amazingly supportive in the tragic times, in addition to being helpful to her in carrying on with her day-to-day life.

I have always loved Natascha’s performance in the role of Karen in Californication. She always came across as a strong person in the show which completed the airing of Season 2 , in the mid of December last year. Her talent and her personality come together to give a new life to her character. She has been one of the strongest reasons for my becoming an addict of the wonderful show. Now with the third season of Californication Tv Show already in the works, I am really looking forward to seeing her back in action. And even though she has suffered a major personal loss, I am sure she will overcome all her difficulties and roadblocks with her great confidence and fighting spirit.

I admit folks I am sorely disappointed. I was hoping that Californication or at least David Duchovny would win a Golden Globe. Though the fans are disheartened but the star himself is pretty cool about the whole thing as he told to Reuters, “The thing about any award show is it’s about exposure bringing new people to our program.”

It’s a swell show and award or no award, it’s difficult to ignore or forget this comedy grounded in reality. Californication is about a novelist Hank Moody portrayed by David Duchovny who resides in Los Angeles. He is still in love with his divorced wife while sharing responsibilities to raise their daughter. He is bitter in the first season when his best selling novel is turned into an asinine Hollywood movie which proves to be a hit. Overcoming the writer’s block, he writes another novel which gets stolen by a nubile girl who seduced him. His ex-wife, sex buddy and casual sexual encounters along with the sexual adventures of his best friend make the show abundant in sexual material and nudity and some really colorful language. But luckily it all is possible on cable network but not on not broadcasters like Fox that are held to stricter content standards on public airwaves.

Duchovny was candid in his revelation said that toward the end of the ninth and final season of “X-Files” in 2002, he had grown tired of hearing critics laud cable shows such as “The Sopranos” because of their use of street language and real-life situations.

“I used to kind of bemoan the fact they were cheating. They had the richness of the English language and we did not. Now that I get to, it’s fun,” Duchovny said.

After X-Files, which shot Duchovny to stardom, ended he did not stick to working on network television as expected from an A- list star. In fact, he worked in low budget art movies like Steven Soderbergh’s “Full Frontal” and wrote and directed “House of D”. His two decades in show biz are a rich in a variety of roles where he showcased his talent. He got attracted to the character of Moody because despite being flawed, the man came across as charming and humane with a sharp wit.

“I’ve been saying for years, ‘I’m funny,’” Duchovny said.

The second season of ‘Californication’ has come to an end and as I watched the season finale I could not help getting impressed with the realism of the show. Most of us know it as a raunchy adult comedy revolving around the life of a sexually depraved writer, Hank. The last two seasons were mostly about which woman he would finally settle down with. And there he was all ready to move with Karen and his daughter Becca, to New York (and Becca, his daughter) with all his fondest dreams just a road trip away when Becca’s love Damien showed up with an iPod and a playlist and said, “I love you, Becca Moody.”

So Karen felt bad about splitting them just then and Hank made up his mind about staying back in California (New Yorkifornication does not rhyme either). Karen had her professional commitments so she decided to move on. I wiped a tear when Hank talked about their relationship and its possible future and Karen chuckled and gave him a kiss and told him that she loved him. I am sure many would have found this unexpected turn distasteful but it is much closer to reality than most other soaps running on the television. In real life people move cities, fall in and out of love only to fall in love again as they struggle to balance their personal and professional lives and long distance relationships do succeed though it seems highly improbable to me in this case.

Moreover, there are people in real life like Hank and Karen who know that ‘happy endings’ are not for everyone, not for them at least or may be they understand that happy endings are not always in black and white. They know that relationships are transitory and it’s not a tragedy to part while one is still in love. Real tragedy is the death of love while still continuing the relationship. Honestly, I was not expecting such profound and realistic interpretation of relationship from a show like Californication. I am eagerly looking forward to the next season and I must say that I was extremely wrong to judge the show as bawdy and shallow. Well, Californication is the show which centers on Hank Moody, portrayed by David Duchovny, a man who’s addicted to sex and who never says ‘no’ to any woman. A few months ago, news also came to light that he has the same addiction is his real life too and that’s why he entered a rehabilitation. That’s cool and I think the similarity of real life and reel life stuff is what makes Duchovny to perform so sweetly. And, Showtime Network is also not in mood to end this sweetness so they’ve picked up the show for third season. Show representatives announced it last week.

As per the details revealed by the network, production of 12 new episodes will begin in the upcoming spring and hopefully, season third will be on our TV sets in late 2009. And, I think, after a tough couple of months, now fans and David has something exciting to celebrate. Although a long wait is ahead but we buddies will merrily pass this time, watching the episodes of previous two seasons of show.

Presently, ‘Californication’ is running with second season. This season is also given 12 episodes. 10 of them have been aired and the next episode ‘Blues from Laurel Canyon’ will be aired on December 7, 08. A little preview: Mia’s book will get published and Ashby will throw a party for her. Charlie will try to have divorce and Becca will catch Damien cheating on her. Following it would be ‘La Petite Mort’, scheduled to be aired on December 14, 2008. In this episode, we will see that Hank will finish writing his biography. Well, it’s little-tough to say anything about the upcoming episodes but all aired episodes of second season have done a brilliant job so anticipations from the rest are higggggggh!

So, get ready to watch these two last episodes of second season of ‘Californication’. And, what do you think Showtime has for Hank Moody in the third season of show? Future will answer it.

There is a lot much of hustle-tussle in the finale episode. If you want to watch a rare kind of wedding, then do watch this episode. The episode begins with Hank’s dream, when he falls off from a cliff and lands on his bed and finds Karen sitting beside him. May be this dream sequence is an intuition of fulfillment of his desire to reunite with Karen. But Becca awakes him as they are getting late for Karen’s much awaited wedding with Bill. This episode is blended with emotional drama, touching stuff along with some humor. In the wedding, Bill tells Mia that he can’t publish her book to protect his reputation. Due to this, angry Mia drinks heavily and starts criticizing Bill for wedding Karen in front of guests. When Hank tries to stop him for courtesy reasons, she discloses off her one night stand with him, which was a secret for Bill and Karen throughout the season. Now raged Bill knocks down Hank. Everybody at the wedding is astonished due to this incident. Mia, because of her friendship with Becca, lies to her that she is entirely responsible for her fling with Becca’s father. Now the scene opens at reception of Bill and Karen and lot many amazing things do happen there. Charlie and Marcy, who were trying hard to make over their wedding throughout the season, reconcile at last. Hank is shown looking at them making love in the backyard.

After some moments he catches Becca kissing a boy and reacts in his distinctive style by teasing the boy saying, “Check Yo self before you wrickety-wreck yo self.” This line is actually part of lyrics of a song ‘Check Yourself’ from ‘Ice cube’. He tells Becca that he will wait for her in the car. Later, when Hank and Becca are about to drive away, Karen comes out running and screaming and jumps into back seat, while Bill is chasing her. She tells Hank to drive fast before she changes her mind again. As Hank drives, the scene closes down with showing their car disappearing in the dark. In the end of the episode, Hank’s dream intuition proved to be true as the entire family is shown reunited in California.

The episode ends with the same song, which was played in the beginning of first episode of the season. It’s ‘You can’t always get what you want’ from The Rolling Stones. I’ve watched this episode for several times. This is quite a funny story and now I am curious about the second season. Whether Hank and Karen will stay together or there’ll be some new twist they are going to introduce in upcoming season. Let’s wait and watch.

Today I was going through TV news on Buddy TV and found a headline that ‘Californication’ star David Duchovny (Hank Moody) has entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction. After reading this, the first thought that hit my mind was, it would have been easy for the actor to play the similar character on the series. In Californication’s season one, he was shown having one night stand with Karen’s Fiancé’s daughter Mia, and several other women. His character is like he never leaves a girl who passes by him.

I wondered when I read this news, that he is an addict in real life as well. But I must appreciate his humble and courageous verdict about it. He conveyed this to reporters through his lawyer Stanton Stein, “I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family.”

He says that fantasies about other women around you are comfortable until these don’t force you to take the further step. Now this is understood that he is a loyal husband and doesn’t want to be a shame for his family.

I also went through the readers’ comments about news. I am glad that most of his fans have sympathy for him. Somebody has written that this addiction is a normal addiction like food and water and is a necessity as well, but in varying degree among different people. Moreover it’s America man! Not the third world.

I must say that this is a maiden step by a celebrity to make us realize that now the time has arrived that such problems should be debated unhesitatingly, instead of leaving hidden spark for a huge fire in future.

It implies that he has a genuine fan following and his fans will support him in his every good and bad times. One fan has even given some references and I think I must share it with you guys. Her name is Vanessa; she gives an example of a writer Harvard Grad, who has written about a couple who bought a strip club to spice up and retain sex addiction within spouses. Anyways, now I can understand Duchovny’s problem very well especially after watching ‘Californification’. Poor Hank faced a separation from his girl friend Karen due to this addiction and she got engaged with somebody else. I’ll suggest you guys that don’t follow up above suggestions and instead of being bold in public avoid catching this bug. Remember precaution is always better than cure.

Two characters from ‘Californication’ are my topmost favorites. One is Hank, the playboy of the show and the other one is his agent Charlie Runkle. If Hank is a sex addict then Charlie is one step ahead of him. Because throughout the season, he is busy in living up his innovative fantasies with his secretary. Their chemistry is really speculative.

They are first introduced in the third episode, “The Whore of Babylon”. Here Charlie is enjoying erotic photographs of his blonde secretary Dani on a site, after just firing her. The next morning she comes to him to apologize and get her job back. She allows him that he can punish her whenever she does something wrong and after a few moments of her kindness; she gets a slap from Charlie on her face.

In an episode, he makes her crawl on floor in lingerie while moving towards him and is clicking her photos in his cabin when Hank arrives over there. Then he suggests Charlie to reconcile with his wife instead of dying for such chicks. In the further episodes he tries the same but in his own distinct ways. He forces his wife Marcy to follow up his fantasies. Marcy calls Dani as Charlie’s slave and is also jealous of Dani because she knows about her relationship with Charlie. In an episode, it is also shown that Marcy and Dani have become lesbian couple and the whole credit goes to Charlie’s fantasies.

Charlie always makes me laugh with his ever existing grumblings about physical dissatisfaction and his concentration remains upon his sexuality only. While trying to save his marriage with Marcy, he makes all the possible experiments with her. He tells Marcy to act like his BDSM Slave for fun but the idea doesn’t work well. So he makes her indulge into threesome including Dani. But in the finale episode, they end up reuniting at the wedding of Karen, as Hank I shown watching them making love in the back yard.

Charlie is also fond of new sex partners like Hank, but is a bit unlucky. In, ‘Devil’s Threesome’, both meet a girl in a boxing gym and this girl knows Hank from some past encounter. Therefore, Hank and Charlie take her to Hank’s place where they try threesome, and unfortunately, while they are in action, Marcy and Karen, who were enjoying girls’ night out, come over there to surprise both of the men. But these ladies’ surprise visit gifts themselves a big surprise. And poor Charlie again became the target of Marcy’s anger.

For me in this show there are two sex addicts, but only one of them is stupid and that’s Charlie. What an entertaining character!

I loved Hank’s character in ‘Californication’. His quotes, his dialogues and above all his instant affairs are the fun factor of the show. Despite numerous problems in his personal and professional life, he still manages to have fun. His witty dialogues stir flavor of humor in even excessively tense situations. I laughed a lot while watching the episode ‘LOL’ which is entirely based upon the improper use of words in English. In this episode, Hank awakes after a dream as usual, and Meredith teases saying LOL, then Hank states that he doesn’t have any problem with the word, but every time a person uses it, they are contributing to the death of English language.

In the mid of this episode, he is invited for a radio interview with Henry Rollins, where he harangues about improper use of language on internet. Later Meredith gets angry and breaks up with Hank saying that those radio bombasts were about her morning’s phrase. But after a few moments she comes back and tells Hank that due to his dialogue with her married boy friend, he has left his wife and they end up with another hot shot. For this incident I have a phrase, “Much ado about nothing”.

In my opinion, Hank’s character became adorable from the second episode when he starts blogging for a magazine named Hell-A Magazine. You know which his first blog was? It’s ‘Hank Hates You All’, it resembles title of his book ‘God Hates Us All’ which is actually a song from the Slayer album.

He started writing blogs for the magazine due to frustration that his novel has been adapted into to a romantic comedy movie ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ by director Todd Carr. He expresses his anger through his blogs. This sparks his fight with the director in a book signing ceremony and he ends up into jail.

In the season finale episode too when he finds his daughter kissing a guy he reacts to the boy saying, “Check yo self before you wrickity-wreck yo self.” I liked his actions in the end as well, when Karen comes screaming and jumps into his car asking him to drive away before she changes her mind. He escapes swiftly escaping the chasing Bill, the bride groom of Karen.

Now I am eager to watch, what happens next in his life as he is reunited with Karen.

Various mixed emotional stories were covered and it met with mixed reactions from viewers of the show. Groups from Australia and New Zealand boycotted the show because of its explicit nature of drug and sex laden scenes. Series was premiered on August 13, 2007 and it ran for a very successful season.

Currently, second season from series has been announced and it is set to be premiered in September.

Well, while talking about Californication, I do feel a little bit excited. Reason is that series moves around an author named Hank Moody, who also works as a blogger at Hell A Magazine. I am also a blogger and watching someone from my profession…. It seems good.

I am watching the show right form its beginning and its plot forces me to watch more and more. I do still remember the day when Series begins and me and my friend were lying on the couch having pop-corns in hands to watch season’s opener.

Season opener was a brilliant idea (at least I do think so), and every viewer was compelled to watch the next episode. Hank Moody’s life style, his sex addiction and his attitude towards women…. All this makes crazy to watch more form the show. However, his feelings and love for his 12 year old daughter also inspires me…. See how much love and care he has for his child…. Was good to see a boyfriend/girlfriend as well as dad/daughter drama. Finally season 1 ends on 10-29-2007 and the season finale was entitled ‘The Last Waltz’. Various cliffhangers were left unsolved by the season finale so fans do need another good season from series…….

Wow!! A superb end to a very good season…. But lots of things are yet to be resolved… let’s see what happens on the second season which is scheduled to be aired on 9-28-2008 with the episode entitled ‘Slip of the Tongue’. Ah!!! I wannna have another splashing season …. Hey come on… it’s not easy to wait!!!!
