‘Californication’ returned with second season on September 28, 2008 and the season opener was entitled ‘Slip of the Tongue’. As we saw in the previous season of series, Hank and Karen had been reunited. They decided to pack up and move back to New York. Reconciliation made Hank undergo a grueling vasectomy. As they didn’t need their house in Los Angeles so they decided to sell it. At the very same night, they went to meet Charlie and Marcy for drinks. While on their way to home, Hank got arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and assaulting an officer. Second episode of season was entitled ‘The Great Ashby’ and we see that Hank had been arrested by police and sent to jail. Karen was still upset and she decided not to bail him out.
While in prison, Hank met Lew Ashby who asked him to write his long awaited biography. Hank accepted and Ashby bailed both of them out. He later narrated him the story of the girl he loved most and later lost. It was not a good time for Charlie and he got fired. Reason was the videos of him masturbating in the office and Dani, his former assistant showed those to his boss. Then was the episode entitled ‘No Way to Treat a Lady’. Ultimately, Hank started writing Lew Ashby’s biography whereas Charlie, as being an agent, decided to help Daisy with her porn career. A prostitute, Trixie, preferred Hank over Ashby based on her past encounters with both of them. Karen met a self help guru. Next episode in row was entitled ‘The Raw & the Cooked’. In this episode, Hank proposed to Karen. It was right before a party which Mia, Charlie, Marcy, Ashby, Sonja and Julian all were invited to. Things didn’t go as they all expected and drugs and some special circumstances were responsible for things going off-center. Next episode in row was entitled ‘Vaginatown’. Here we saw that Hank moved in Lew’s mansion and spent his night with a cooking show host, Chloe Metz. Charlie’s newest client, Ronny Praeger, was going to produce an adult film and he became a major investor in the project, investing $100,000. Meanwhile, Charlie also helped Daisy to get her a role in a porn film ‘Vaginatown’. Then was the episode entitled ‘Coke Dick & The First Kick’. In order to find more about Ashby, Hank tried to find his lost love. The gal was named Janie Jones. His investigation led him to know that she’s now a Beverly Hills wife and mama. Julian was seen with another woman. Sonja revealed it to Hank that they (Julian & Sonja) had an open relationship. Mia’s whole day was spent with Rolling Stone reporter Annika Staley following her. It was very stunning for Hank to see Mia leaving Ashby’s bedroom later at night. The set was ruined so ultimately, the Runkle residence was transferred into the set of Vaginatown. Charlie became a part of the film after the lead actor’s failings. Next episode in row was entitled ‘In a Lonely Place’. In this episode, Hank developed feelings for Becca’s teacher, Mrs. Patterson, after he met her during a parent-teacher meeting. Meanwhile, Charlie came to know that Marcy had been hiding a secret. And this revelation would surely affect their finances. Next to it was the episode entitled ‘Going Down and Out in Beverly Hills’. Here, we saw that Hank tried to know the truth about Ashby. As he visited Janie Jones he discovered something very interesting about her maid. Karen had a war of words with the Ashby after she came to know about Mia dating him. Marcy was detoxing at her mother’s house whereas Charlie tried to manage Daisy. Next episode of series was entitled ‘La Ronde’. Hank rejected an offer. It was a sex offer and was very amazing to see when Hank said ‘no’. Meanwhile, Karen dated Ashby. Charlie and Daisy formed a bond. Then we watched the episode entitled ‘In Utero’. Visiting a doctor made Hank and Karen to remember the days when Karen first got pregnant. Marcy was still in rehabilitation.
Daisy and Charlie’s special relationship was still going. Later, Daisy decided to leave and Charlie was seen begging her not to go. Next episode in row was entitled ‘Blues From Laurel Canyon’. Mia’s book got published and in order to celebrate, Ashby hosted a party. Becca came to know Damien cheating on her and it was very devastating for her. As Marcy’s rehab was over so Charlie asked her for a divorce. Season finale was entitled ‘La Petite Mort’ and it was aired on December 14, 2008. In this episode, we saw that Hank had completed Ashby’s biography. Charlie got a job at a car dealership. Sonja delivered the baby. Karen decided to move to New York and Hank and Becca faced some difficulties and had to make choices.
